Continuing the positive legacy of the Colombo Plan
The original Colombo Plan of the 1950s and 60s brought the first international students to Waipapa Taumata Rau, the University of Auckland, enhancing cross-cultural understanding throughout Asia and the Pacific and catalysing the technological and economic development of Colombo Plan countries.
In 2011 the Colombo Plan Scholarship in Engineering was launched, largely through the support of alumni of the original Colombo Plan. Keeping alive the legacy of the Colombo Plan, the Scholarship has made it possible for twelve scholars of great potential to pursue engineering studies at the University of Auckland and greatly improved their financial wellbeing while completing their degrees.
